Indelible footprints of Brigadier General Yusuf Bomoi, 13th DG of NYSC
Brigadier General Yusuf Bomoi, born in 1957 was a seasoned and distinguished Retired Nigerian Army officer from Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State. He was of the Corps of Education.
He attended Fika Government Secondary School in 1975. Then proceeded to Bayero University, Kano and graduated in I979.
He proceeded to the Nigerian Defence Academy, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1983.

He served in various command and staff positions, and is known for his leadership and integrity. He also served as Commandant, Command Secondary School, Kaduna (1995 – 1999) at the Rank of Lt. Colonel.
He was later appointed Director General of the NYSC (2004 – 2009). He was the second former corps member to head the scheme. He served in this position as a Brigadier General.
He moved the NYSC Directorate Headquarters to it’s permanent site in Maitama, Abuja, revived the NYSC Honours Award, Sports & Cultural Festivals, and the Corp Forum.

He worked tirelessly for the increase of allowances for corps members and staff.
He returned to duties within the Nigerian Army Education Corps after completing his NYSC appointment, as was standard for military officers posted to such national schemes.
He continued active service in the Army and retired in April 2012, at the rank of Brigadier General.
After service, he went into farming and flourished in the agricultural sector.
Brigadier General Yusuf Bomoi died on Monday, September 18, 2017, in Abuja after a brief illness.
He is remembered as a gentle, pragmatic, and compassionate leader, known for contributing to military educational institutions. His overall service emphasised personnel development, training, and administrative roles in support of the Nigerian Army.
