Renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Rigi-Rigi, passes away at 57

The Muslim community in Kaduna State and beyond has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular Zaria-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Rigi-Rigi, who passed away at the age of 57.

The cleric reportedly died on Monday after a brief illness, according to family sources. Although details of his passing remain limited, news of his death spread quickly across social media, drawing tributes from religious leaders, students, and followers who described him as a fearless preacher and a committed teacher of Islamic values.

Sheikh Rigi-Rigi was widely respected for his deep knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence and his ability to communicate complex religious teachings in a way that resonated with ordinary people. He was a regular speaker at mosque lectures, Islamic gatherings, and public religious programmes, particularly in Zaria and other parts of northern Nigeria.

Over the years, he gained a reputation for speaking candidly on moral discipline, social justice, and the responsibilities of leaders and followers alike. His sermons, often shared widely online, attracted a large audience and influenced many young Muslims.

Condolence messages have continued to pour in from prominent clerics, Islamic organisations, and community leaders, who described his death as a significant loss to Islamic scholarship in Nigeria. Many prayed for Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.

Funeral prayers (Salatul Janazah) are expected to be held in Zaria in accordance with Islamic rites, with thousands anticipated to attend to pay their last respects.
