Gov Buni commiserates with rainstorm victims in Damaturu

From Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on June 8, 2020, has expressed with sadness, for the unfortunate loss of life, injuries and damages caused by the heavy rainstorm accompanied with powerful winds in Damaturu.

Governor Buni passed the message on Tuesday in Damaturu through a statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director General Press and Media Affairs to the governor.

The Governor prayed for the repose of the souls that were lost in the storm and to their families the fortitude to bear the loss. He also prayed for the quick recovery of those who sustained injuries.

He directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to ensure the treatment of all those injured and assess the level of damages for provision of assistance to the victims.

He has also directed the Yobe State Environmental Protection Agency to evacuate all drainages to ensure free flow of rain water as the rainy season sets in.

Buni also called on the people to support government in the evacuation of the drains and cautioned against converting the drains into refuse dumps.

He further warned against construction of structures on water ways, urging the communities to monitor and report illegal structures blocking free flow of the rain waters in their areas.
