Violence has escalated in various parts of Lagos as suspected hoodlums have entered the Lagos headquarters of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Marina.
A member of the Lagos State Fire Service, who confirmed the incident, said they set fire to the building.
He noted that efforts were on to salvage the situation.
The firefighter explained that a statement would soon be released on the level of destruction done to the federal facility.
The arson was said to be a fallout of the attack on protesters at the Lekki tollgate.
At the time of this report, more police stations across the state have been torched just as Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) terminals, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) head office in Marina, Igbosere Magistrates Court, Lekki Shopping Mall and many other important facilities have suffered attacks.
Confirming the chaos, police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi said: “They are attacking and looting banks and people’s properties. Even taking away cars.
”They are hoodlums and they will be treated as such. Everybody is a target. Police stations and media houses not spared. Minimum force will be applied to curtail them.”
Also, a group of people on Wednesday, October 21, gathered around the family home of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Omididun Street, Lagos Island, throwing stones at the house.
The attack on the Lagos State Governor’s family home came after #EndSARS protesters were shot at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos.
Prior to the shooting, the governor had imposed an impromptu curfew on the state.
However, the End SARS protesters refused to leave the protest ground. Subsequently, men arrived and removed the security cameras at the toll gate, then the lights were put off and gunshots were fired at protesters in the darkness. Some people were killed and even more, people were injured. In anger, youths took to the Governor’s family home.
Eyewitnesses told that one of the youths poured petrol on the house but was prevented from setting fire to the house.
The eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “Around 7.45 am, angry youths gathered around Sanwo-Olu’s family home on Omididun Street, Lagos Island, throwing stones and shattering glasses.
“One of the youths poured petrol on the building but was immediately prevented from setting it ablaze because the fire could spread and lead to loss of lives.
Policemen attached to the Adeniji Adele Police Station reportedly raced to the scene after they got wind of the violence.
At the TVC, it was gathered the hoodlums who could not gain access into the building, set vehicles ablaze and were advancing in when policemen arrived the scene.
The policemen were said to have dispersed the mob, contained the inferno before evacuating occupants of the premises to safety.
It was also gathered hoodlums looted commercial banks in Lekki and carted away cash while cultists were alleged to have capitalised on the impasse to loot, kill people in Ikorodu.
A reporter with the station confirmed the development to newsmen. The source said parts of the stations are already up in flames while journalists and other workers on the night and early morning duties are currently trapped.
“Yes, I can confirm it. Cars within the compound are already on fire and parts of the station are in flames. Our popular morning programme “Your View” that was ongoing before the attack is already off the air. Please pray for our colleagues who are trapped and taking cover in the compound,” the source said.
