Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni yesterday commissioned the construction of township roads and drainages in Potiskum town as part of the ongoing efforts to reduce problems of flood during the rainy season.
The project comprises of 5.2-kilometre roads and concrete drainages that is expected to reduce flood, enhance movements and escalate socio-economic activities.
The project is a continuation of Governor Buni’s urban and rural infrastructural development project aimed at developing towns and villages across Yobe state.
Governor Buni has emphasized that “As a state, Yobe is endowed with rich agricultural potentials, the need for good roads cannot be overemphasized, it occupies a critical position in enhancing the movement of agricultural produce and livestock to the markets for farmers to have value for their labour.”
Also, As part of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni’s determination of fulfilment of his campaign pledge to his people, the governor yesterday laid the foundation for the construction of the modern market project in Potiskum town.
The new market to be completed in 12-months is part of the ongoing efforts embarked on urban renewal schemes that would uplift citizens standard of living in the State.
Similar projects according to him have been completed in Babban Gida, Buni Yadi, Damaturu, Jajimaji and a 2-km road, 4-km concrete drainage project worth over N550 million in Geidam Local Government Area of the state.
These facilities, apart from easing business will also create an environment that can attract businesses and investment. With the new markets, Yobe state has the potentials of becoming a regional trading hub.
