Maryam Bukar Hassan (born December 25, 1996), better known as Alhanislam, is a poet and she is popularly known for her spoken words and has attended major festivals and conferences around the world.
Maryam, a native of Biu, Borno State was born and raised in Kaduna State, Nigeria. She grew up with her mother, the famous Hausa actress, Hauwa Maina. She completed her secondary education at Uncle Bado Memorial College Kaduna and later studied Information Technology at Radford University College of Science in Ghana which is affiliated with Kwame Nkrumah University. She lives in Abuja.
Maryam is a speaker at various levels including Aké Arts and Book Festival, Books and Arts Festival, TED Conference; TEDx Argungu, TEDx Murtala Square, Northern Youth Conference, NEXT Level USA, DARE Conference Africa, Humanitarian Conference, organized by the US Embassy in honour of Daniel Pearl, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) conference.
Maryam was present at the 8th African Government Building Conference and the 8th African Union Summit in Kampala, Uganda. Also speaking at the Kaduna Economic and Budget Conference, Women in Government Meeting through PERL Initiative DFID, delivered a keynote address at the Kaduna Education Fair and related issues.
The impact of the heartbeat, she was a vocalist at a French college. Celebrating Human Rights Day as a song, in accelerating the revitalization of Africa in Africa she was a guest lecturer who was asked to “improve business strategy through storytelling”.
She has been an advocate for violence against women and children and has won praise for her video on domestic violence, titled: ‘Violence Has No Religion’, on YouTube.
In 2017 she released her album titled “In the Heart of Silence”.
Maryam established the Center for the Teaching of Islam, the teaching of life, counselling, speech training, and the teaching house of literature. She later collaborated with Creative Kiddies Nigeria; a platform where children are taught poetry, monologues, public speaking and Deen-at-heart speech; known as the production of content in Islam.
She is the chief executive officer of VARIETEA; which is a brand of safe and personalized tea with a unique formula that provides easy relaxation and reduces stress and hypertension, most recently the DG Juremi Foundation.
She is also the founder and CEO of Alhanislam news agency which focuses on songs. Her videos have been a regular feature on social media for the past five years, starring everything from the youth level to domestic violence with wisdom, intelligence and the reality of the situation, appeals to her communities. Maryam was featured in interviews with Arise TV, Daily Trust, Good Morning Show NTA, Farinwata TV and profiled on BBC Action Media Naija.
Maryam, also known as the creator, created the SDG poems to recommend to the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on the SDGs to the President, Ignite Africa Initiative and the Kaduna State Literary Writers among others.
The Women of the North Pandora Awards awarded Maryam as the Motion Picture of the Northerners in 2019, the best young woman and the North Kutashi 2019 award was accepted as one of the 5 women from the Vlisco beauty industry in 2019, placed Mary on Pulse TV as the 5th Most Influential Muslim Women in the World. She was also featured in Business Magazine as one of the 10 Most Influential Women in Kaduna State.
In 2019, she was awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Nigerian Senate (DYAN) for her outstanding achievement in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the development of the nation, the betterment of people’s lives and their commitment to humanity.
On February 2, 2020, Maryam received the prestigious award as the Best Speaker in the Northern Region through the Fresh Hausa Fulani Initiative, and the Fashmex Initiative presented her with the prestigious award in recognition of her contribution, supporting business in the textile industry.
On February 14, 2020, she was awarded the “Youth of Encouragement” by the Northern Youth League.
Maryam is married to Umar Ahmad Zuruq. The couple have one child now.
