The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has released 40,000 metric Tonnes of assorted Grains to the North East region under the Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Programme.
About 1000 Trucks of Grains would be distributed to North East States of Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi and Gombe States respectively.
The Director General of NEMA, Engineer Mustàpha Yunusa Maihajja, revealed this at the palace of the Emir of Fika and Chairman, Yobe state council of chiefs, during a courtesy call on him.
He said the enumeration exercise has began in that respect “the distribution exercise was recently launched by the Acting President Yemi Osinbanjo in Maiduguri.”
According to him, “we have decided to go round and monitor the distribution exercise, that is why we are here in your palace.”
The presidential committee members on the inspection comprise of the state minister of Budget and National Planning, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Garba Abari, police AIG and Nigerian Air force Officer.
In her remarks, the state minister of Budget and National Planning, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed explained that the food items comprise of Rice, Maize, Millet, Guinea Corn and Soya Beans respectively.
According to her, 1,330 Truck load of foodstuff has been allocated to North East “and Yobe would have 230 Trucks.”
She commended effort of other donor agencies in cushioning the suffering of the victims of Boko Haram insurgency in the area.
Responding, Alhaji Idrissa Madaki, the Madaki of Fikà, who represented the Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for constituting such a committee, “we are very happy with you and the President for the intervention; this will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the victims of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.”
