Commissioner of education pays surprise visit to 5 schools in Yobe, finds no principal on duty
Yobe state Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Muhammad Sani Idriss has paid an unannounced visit to five secondary schools in the state to evaluate the capacity of teachers and the learning of students.
However, on getting there, the commissioner discovered the absence of the schools principals and met a very poor number of students in attendance.
The commissioner expressed utter disappointment with the turnout in the schools, as he was unable to meet any of the five principals of the five schools he visited.
During the visit, the commissioner also met a very poor number of students who were writing SSCE. He further inspected the students’ classes, hostels, kitchen and various sections of the schools.

Idriss who was shocked at the conduct of the schools heads said his ministry cannot tolerate any form of indiscipline, especially in the state civil service.
He also revealed that the absent principals will report to the ministry of education’s head office and explain the reason why they neglected their official duties.
The commissioner said he will henceforth be embarking on similar surprise visits to schools across the state to appraise the zeal and willingness of teachers and principals in discharging their duties.
