Girl Child: Women have the capacity to excel in all fields – Kogi traditional ruler

Parents TEMPhave been charged to give priority attention to girl child education and encourage the study of Science courses for the development of the society.
The Ohimege Igu of Koton karfe, Alhaji Abdulrazak Isah Koto gave the charge at the Investiture and Inauguration of Kogi state chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) in Lokoja.
Alhaji Abdulrazak said the need to encourage the girl child to study the engineering profession can not be overemphasised saying that women TEMPhave the capacity to excel in all fields.
The Traditional Ruler commended the efforts of APWEN in taking the campaign to various secondary schools across the state to sensitize the girl child on the need to read science courses and go for the engineering profession.

He challenged The Association to continue with the mentorship, catch them young in technological courses as it is the life wire of every society.
The guest speaker at the occasion, Mrs Elizabeth Animokun challenged parents to encourage their female children to study science courses saying that it would help them compete favourably with the future challenges.
Mrs Animokun urged the girl child to take a career in technology and put aside the current practice which sees women as second fiddles noting that technology has helped to liberate the women folk from bondage and societal shackles imposed by men.
In her acceptance speech the Kogi state Chairman of APWEN, Engineer Oguche Joan commended all the engineering family for giving her the opportunity to serve and promise to take the advocacy of girl child education to the three Senatorial districts.
Joan said some of the Association’s objectives was to encourage engineering studies and practice among female in Nigeria, provide a forum to promote sorority among engineers and create a platform for women engineers to collaborate with other professions.
The immediate past Chairman of the association, Engineer Magret Ojo said APWEN would not relent in its support for girl child education in the State.
Engineer Magret explained that the Association was launched in Kogi State in 2019 with a view to continuously increase awareness for engineering careers for girls, thereby improving the strength of female engineers.
She further explained that the association stimulate women to achieve professional excellence, increase the population of women in engineering in Nigeria and protect the interest of members.
