Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano
Gunmen in large numbers yesterday, Sunday attacked Goronyo market in Sokoto State, killing several villagers. So far bodies of 60 people were found and deposited in the hospital.
Some of the villagers who witnessed the attack told members of the press and security agencies in Sokoto, that they were in the market at about 1-2 pm when the gunmen arrived on motorcycles and started shooting randomly at them and killing close to 100 people in the process.

Adding that of recent the area is coming under serious security siege, as reports had it that most of the dangerous gunmen that ran from Zamfara, Katsina and Niger State have now relocated their camp in villages on Sokoto/Niger border. This has given them sleepless nights especially considering the fact that the Sokoto State government and members of the Armed Forces are yet to put up a strong security apparatus in place that will protect them.
“We are preparing for the harvest for our farm products, but nobody, I mean none of us can dare go to the farms. Because of fear, our farm products are getting wasted and one can easily predict that this year, the people of the area will face massive poverty and starvation. The bandits are increasing in number around Sokoto villages mounting new camps for their men that ran away from some states, one of the villagers told the press”.
At the time of filing this report, Goroyo villagers are still searching for some of them that were shot by the gunmen and escaped into the bush with heavy gun wounds.
It could be recalled that recently, seven soldiers and junior brother to former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa were arrested and paraded for supplying Army uniforms and guns to bandits.
