Abia PDP guber candidate dies in Abuja

Professor Uchenna Ikonne, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, is dead.

His death was announced in a statement on Wednesday by his son, Dr Uche-Ikonne Chikezie.

According to the younger Ikonne, the PDP governorship candidate died around 4am today, January 25, 2023 after a brief illness. He died at the National Hospital Abuja.

“He was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrests for which he didn’t recover from.

“Further details and arrangements would be made known to the public after deliberations and meetings are made within the family,” the statement reads in part.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, told newsmen that the party will issue a statement after receiving briefing from the state chapter.
