ABU Zaria Law Society organises fresher’s week with fun, educational activities for new students

Similar to previous years, the Law Society of the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, selected a specific week for the welcoming of new students, also known as “Jambitos”, into the faculty. The freshers were shown other activities and experiences that can be fun alongside learning.

The programme started on Tuesday, tagged: “Know your leaders programme” where new students get to know the executives of the Law Society and its different arms which are the Executive, the Parliament and the Judiciary. In this programme, the new students were urged to visit any of the leaders of the society for guidance.

On Wednesday, there was a friendly football match between the faculty team and the level one students. Football is considered a fun activity of the faculty and on certain occasions, a fierce competition. This programme allows the new students to get competitive in such occasions.

Later the same day, around 8pm, a “Debate Competition” was also conducted for the new students to help bring out the talent in each student and allow them to engage in educational extracurricular activities such as moot competition and interesting debate sessions, etc.

The programme also helps them know what part of the profession suits them more and allows them to focus on that path such as Litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), etc.

On Thursday, there was a “Library Tour” for the incoming students. Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, provides a law library accessible to all students and provides all the necessary materials needed within the profession ranging from Nigerian Law Reports, All English Law Reports, different materials for each course, e-library etc. There is also space for students who desire to come and read in a quiet place.

Closing the week was a fun “Games Night” on Friday, where students came to play games, enjoy and interact with each other. The event was made open to all students of the faculty.

Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, always endeavours to welcome its new students with guidance and good energy, to allow them enjoy their stay and make learning a bit easier for them.

On 14th February, the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, planned a “Freshers’ Fiesta Programme” for all the new students in the entire school.
