It is the second day in September where residents in most parts of Lagos witnessed several hours of a heavy downpour.

Most of the streets and roads in the state have been submerged by floods as a result of seven hours of nonstop rain which started around 6:00am in some parts of the state.

As captured on camera by our reporter in Amuwo-odofin Local Government Area of the state, few cars were seen trying to wade through the flooded roads also, few residents were seen at various bus stops waiting for commercial motorcycles (Okada), Tricycles, (Keke NAPEP) and Danfo buses to convey them to their destinations.

Lagos being a coastal state is not immune to natural occurrences such as this. Several mechanisms were put in place by the government to reduce the effect of a possible emergency flooding.

Before the warning from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) a few weeks ago, the state has made concerted efforts in clearing drainage channels and gutters to aid the free flow of floods to the designated lagoons.

According to predictions by NiMet, the state has directed residents of low lying areas, especially those on the river banks, to relocate, because of the heavy rainfall and attendant flash flooding in the state.
