Again, commuters stranded over massive gridlock along Abuja-Keffi highway

Story from Abah ADAH, Abuja

Thousands of civil servants and artisans heading towards Abuja on Wednesday morning were stranded on the ever-busy Abuja-Keffi road with many turning back due to traffic alleged to be caused by roadblocks mounted by operatives of the Nigerian Army for checks.

Traffic jams along the Abuja-Keffi road have been a recurring situation usually caused by accidents, wrong parking, roadblocks by security operatives, heavy traffic volume, among others.

Workers, who left their homes as early as 6 am, were trapped inside their vehicles as of 9:20 am according to an eye witness.

Neptune Prime gathered that the chaotic situation forced several people to abandon their vehicles to trek several kilometres in order to meet up with appointments.

The road was blocked at the Kugbo Mechanic Village section of the Abuja axis.

Most of the commercial drivers who spoke lamented the sudden return of the military on the road and pleaded with government authorities to look into their plights.
The long queues of vehicles that started at Kugbo Mechanic Village stretch as far as near Masaka.

Expectedly, okada riders made brisk business, charging as much as N1000 to convey a passenger from around Masaka to Kugbo.
