Bandits abduct women in Kano State
Bandits have abducted at least eight residents in Biresawa village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, following a late-night attack carried out between 11 p.m. and midnight on Monday.
A credible source told our correspondent that the attackers stormed the community and took away two men and six women, with no information yet on their whereabouts.
A relative of some of the victims, Kabiru Usman, said the gunmen arrived on foot through neighbouring Tsundu village. “They came armed with guns. They kidnapped my wife, Umma; my 17-year-old daughter, Fati; my brother’s wife, and two other women,” he said.

Usman added that locals attempted to resist the attackers but were overpowered due to their superior firearms.
Residents reported receiving prior warnings that bandits were approaching and alerted security agencies, including the police and military. “We notified them ahead of time because they gave us their numbers and told us to call if we had information,” he said.
Sources told Daily Trust that the bandits also attacked Sarmawa, Yan Chibi, and Gano villages in the same local government area. In Yan Chibi, around 50 armed men riding motorcycles reportedly opened fire in the air, causing residents to flee. Several people—mostly women—were abducted across the affected communities, with estimates suggesting more than 10 victims.
A vigilante source revealed that local patrol teams attempted to pursue the assailants but lost track of them after they crossed into neighbouring Katsina State. He added that fear has gripped communities across Tsanyawa, especially following recent attacks in Shanono and Bagwai LGAs. Many families now avoid sleeping in their homes at night.

Persistent insecurity has forced several villages to become deserted, with many residents seeking refuge in Faruruwa town or relocating to urban centres.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, had not responded to calls for comment.
This latest incident adds to a pattern of repeated attacks in the area. Weeks earlier, bandits invaded Yan Kwada village in Faruruwa community, Shanono LGA, abducting five women, including nursing mothers. This occurred shortly after a joint military operation in the area killed 19 suspected bandits.
