Tinubu confirms release of 24 abducted Kebbi schoolgirls

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the release of the 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State on November 17. The President’s confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu commended the security agencies for their coordinated efforts in securing the freedom of all the kidnapped students. He also directed them to intensify rescue operations to ensure that all remaining abductees in similar incidents are safely recovered.

“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must, as a matter of urgency, put more boots on the ground in vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping. My government will offer all the assistance needed to achieve this,” the President stated.

The attackers had raided the school at dawn shortly after a military detachment reportedly vacated the premises, carting away the students. The Kebbi abduction was followed by similar incidents in Eruku, Kwara State, and Papiri in Niger State.

All 38 abductees from the Kwara incident regained their freedom on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Niger State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria disclosed that 50 of the missing students from the Catholic school in Niger State were later found in their parents’ homes.
