Story by Okafor Vivian

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed an elderly woman and abducted three others during a violent raid on Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The attack occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, with witnesses reporting that the assailants arrived on motorcycles and then proceeded on foot to carry out the raid. The elderly woman, reportedly about 60 years old, was shot dead after she pleaded with the attackers not to abduct her son.

Three individuals were abducted during the attack, including the woman’s son and two women, one of whom is said to be related to a local ward councillor. Security operatives from the Kano State Police Command have been deployed to the area, conducting search operations to rescue the victims and apprehend the bandits.

This incident is part of a growing spate of violent attacks in the border communities of Kano State, where residents have blamed easy escape routes through nearby forests and neighboring areas for the increased banditry. Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant while security forces intensify efforts to restore peace.
