Bandits unleash terror in Sokoto villages, kill 11 people

Tension has rocked Sokoto State after another brutal attack by bandits claimed 11 lives.

According to reports from security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the gunmen attacked in a coordinated manner, striking villages in Gwadabawa and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas.

In a post on his official X handle, Makama noted that the attack occured in the evening of Thursday, May 2, around 7:30pm.

He wrote, “The assailants, said to be in large numbers, first stormed Satiru Village, killing five residents.

“They later moved to Kunkurus Village, where one person was killed, before proceeding to Shadawa community in Sabon Birni LGA, where they shot and killed another five people, bringing the total number of casualties to eleven.”

Following the receipt of distress calls, troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA, and the men of the Nigeria Police Force swung into action, but the bandits had already left the areas.

In another development, military troops have neutralised scores of bandits in Zamfara State.

The neutralisation comes after a fierce gun battle between the insurgents and the troops in the state.
