Thieves steal priceless Napoleonic jewels from Louvre Museum in Paris
In an audacious daylight robbery, thieves stormed the Louvre Museum in Paris on Sunday morning, making off with jewels of “inestimable value” once owned by Napoleon and his empresses — all within just seven minutes.
According to officials, the intruders gained entry around 9:30 a.m. by forcing open a window before fleeing the scene on motorbikes. The Louvre, the world’s most visited museum with 8.7 million visitors in 2024, was immediately closed to the public as police launched a full-scale investigation.
The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed it had opened an inquiry into suspected “organised theft and criminal conspiracy to commit a crime.”

Culture Minister Rachida Dati confirmed the incident on X, stating, “A robbery took place this morning at the opening of the Louvre Museum. No injuries to report.” Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez told local radio that the robbers used a disc cutter to break through glass panes, describing them as “a team that had clearly done prior scouting.”
Both ministers arrived at the museum shortly after the heist to coordinate with museum officials and investigators as the search for the culprits intensified.
