Authorities in Yobe State have launched a manhunt after a death-row inmate, Abba Hassan, escaped from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum in the early hours of Friday, October 31, 2025.

Spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday. He disclosed that Hassan, who hails from Maiduguri in neighbouring Borno State, remains at large.

The Police Command urged residents across Yobe and adjoining states to remain alert and report any information that could assist in locating and apprehending the fugitive. Security agencies, transport operators, community leaders, and vigilante groups were also advised to be watchful.
