DSS justifies SERAP office visit as legal, denies harassment claims
The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified that its officers’ visit to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project’s (SERAP) Abuja office on Monday was lawful and not an act of harassment or intimidation.
In a statement on its website, the DSS explained that the visit was a routine investigation, not a raid as some media outlets had reported.

The statement read, “The Department of State Services has received numerous inquiries regarding its alleged unlawful invasion of SERAP offices in Abuja and Lagos. This narrative is inaccurate and misleading.”
The DSS insisted that the officers’ actions were misinterpreted and that such official inquiries and liaison are standard procedures that do not constitute illegality or a raid.
The agency assured that it would investigate the misleading claims and urged citizens to engage in national security management.
SERAP had earlier condemned the visit to its Abuja office by the DSS and called on President Bola Tinubu to instruct the DSS to cease the intimidation and harassment of its officials.
