EFCC arrests Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa over alleged Naira mutilation
The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested popular Kannywood actress, Samha Inuwa, over an alleged act of naira mutilation.
The arrest took place on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, after a video showing the actress using naira notes to clean mucus from her nose went viral across various social media platforms. The footage sparked widespread public reactions and condemnation, with many Nigerians calling for action against what they described as abuse of the national currency.
According to the EFCC, the viral video drew the attention of the Commission, which immediately commenced preliminary investigations into the incident. Operatives subsequently traced and arrested Inuwa to answer questions regarding the alleged offence.

EFCC officials confirmed that the actress is currently in custody at the Commission’s detention facility in Kano, where she is being interrogated as investigations continue. The agency noted that mutilation, defacement, or abuse of the naira is an offence punishable under Nigerian law.
The Commission further stated that Inuwa will be formally charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, in line with due process.

The EFCC has repeatedly warned the public, including celebrities and social media influencers, against acts that constitute abuse of the naira, stressing that the law applies equally to all citizens regardless of status or profession.
