As part of sober reflections on the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations by Muslim faithful (ummah) in Nigeria, the Muslim community in Imo State, through the state Muslim Council, has called on people of the state to embrace peace and national unity, by making selfless sacrifices for healthier nation-building.
This was contained in a statement issued by journalists in Owerri, signed by the chairman of Imo State Muslim Council, Malam Basheer Uwakwe.

According to the statement, Muslim Umar, and the generality of Imo citizens are expected to take advantage of the message of Allah on sacrifice and obedience to constituted authorities, as exemplified in the Holy Quran, where Ibrahim wishfully out of obedience to the will of God (Supreme Authority), wanted to sacrifice his son, Ismail.
It further noted that the essence of the celebration was to among others, teach people the need for sacrifice as a basic ingredient for national peace, unity and development anchored on the love of Allah.
The Imo Muslims, however, used the occasion in praying for the state, as well as, reiterated their support and loyalty to the government of Imo State, led by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
