Female journalist appeals for N5m assistance to undergo brain surgery

A Bauchi State based journalist, Hafsat Abdulhamid, has appealed to well meaning Nigerians and philanthropists to assist her raise N5 million for a brain tumor surgery.

Hafsat, a mother and reporter with Daily Post online newspaper, has been diagnosed of brain tumour at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), in Plateau State.

The doctors said she has to undergo surgery to get treated for the disease at the cost of N5 million.

However, her family complained that they do not have the financial resources to sponsor the surgery, and pleaded for assistance from Nigerians.

Elder sister to the ailing journalist, Aisha Abdulhamid, explained that she developed the disease over two years ago and had been going to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi earlier but there was no solution to her sickness and she was then referred to JUTH.

“Hafsat suffers much and we spent all our savings to raise money for her treatment but it would not be enough.

“Friends, family and colleagues have also tried. We are told that her new surgery operation will cost the sum of N5 million and we do not have it.

“We therefore seek help from Nigerians to enable us pay for her surgery. As we speak, for more than a week, she cannot eat, talk and walk. The consultant told us that she should have the operation within this week,” the sister stated.
