This announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a briefing with State House correspondents following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which was presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In addition to the renaming, the government has approved a free train service nationwide from December 20 to January 6, 2025.

This initiative aims to alleviate the burden of high transportation costs during the Christmas season.

Minister Idris indicated that the Council would formally communicate the resolution to the National Assembly for the necessary proceedings regarding the university’s name change. He also noted that cabinet members are scheduled to take a recess from December 18 and will reconvene on January 6, 2025.
