FG to move visa applications online by March 1
The Federal Government has announced that all visa applications will be processed online before March 1.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this disclosure on Monday during an appearance on ‘X Spaces’, hosted by influencer Dr. Segun Awosanya.
He also highlighted the creation of a centralized visa approval center, which consolidates the country’s visa process. This move is aimed at ensuring uniformity, enhancing national security, and combating corruption.
“The establishment of the visa approval center is a significant achievement for this administration. It will help reduce corruption, improve national security, and standardize the visa process,” he stated. “By March 1, all visa applications will be moved online to facilitate proper vetting.”
Dr. Tunji-Ojo further emphasized the establishment of a harmonized data center at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC), located at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Sauka, Abuja.
He noted, “We’ve built one of the largest data centers in Nigeria’s history, with a capacity of 8.3 petabytes. Before this, the Nigeria Immigration Service lacked a proper data center, and citizens’ data was stored by private contractors, violating the Data Protection Act.”
He continued, “Issuing security documents without proper data management is a violation of due process. To address this, we committed to building a 1.4-petabyte data center, but we exceeded that promise by delivering an 8.3-petabyte facility—one of the largest in the world.”
