FIFA World Cup: Spain hold down Costa Rica with 7 goals as Japan stun Germany 2-1

Twenty ten (2010) World Cup winner, Spain, dealt a heavy blow on Costa Rica in a 7-goal thriller Wednesday evening at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Spaniards had a free hand on the Costa Ricans in the first half scoring three goals with Dani Olmo opening the scoreline eleven minutes.

Ten minutes later, former Real Madrid player, Marco Asensio doubled the lead to make it 2-0 while the third before half-time was scored courtesy, Barcelona forward, Ferran Torres.

The Costa Ricans were left handicapped after the fourth goal via a penalty scored by Torres in the 54th minutes.

Spain continued to drag the South Americans in the mud with the fifth goal from the young Barcelona starlet, Gavi scoring his first World Cup goal in the 74th.

Carlos Soler and former Chelsea player, Alvaro Morata heightened the misery for Costa Rica with the sixth and seventh goals in the 90th and 92nd minutes respectively.

Earlier in the day, Germany were stunned by Japan in a 2-1 defeat.
