Fireboy DML & Asake’s ‘Bandana’ achieves silver certification in UK

Fireboy DML and Asake have hit a major milestone as their collaborative track “Bandana” has been certified silver in the United Kingdom. This accomplishment signifies that the song has surpassed 200,000 units in sales, as recognized by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

For Asake, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade, this marks his first certification, reflecting his impressive rise in the music scene. Recently, he earned his first Grammy nomination, further solidifying his growing global presence alongside fellow Nigerian artists such as Rema, Tems, Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido.

Fireboy DML, born Adedamola Adefolahan, has consistently achieved international success, with previous hits like “Peru” and “Jealous” amassing millions of streams and earning him a global fanbase. “Bandana” adds to his list of achievements, strengthening his position as a prominent figure in Nigerian music.

The silver certification of “Bandana” not only highlights the talents of Fireboy DML and Asake but also underscores the expanding global influence of Afrobeats. The genre has experienced remarkable growth, with a 1,200% increase on Spotify since 2017.

Burna Boy paved the way as the first Nigerian artist with a certified silver album in the UK for “African Giant,” while Wizkid’s collaboration with Drake on “One Dance” introduced Afrobeats to a worldwide audience. The success of “Bandana” is another step forward in the global recognition of Nigerian music talent and its burgeoning influence on the international stage.
