Fuel tanker explosion in Kaduna injures 20, including firefighters, vigilante members

A fuel tanker explosion in the Rigasa community of Kaduna State on Wednesday left more than 20 people injured, including firefighters and vigilante members who were attempting to extinguish the flames.

The incident occurred while the tanker was offloading fuel at a local filling station, causing panic and chaos throughout the community.

Reports indicate that among the injured were five firefighters and members of the Kaduna State Vigilante Service, along with onlookers who had gathered near the fuel station to witness the inferno.

Mr. Paul Aboi, the Director of the Kaduna State Fire Service, revealed that his injured team members were swiftly transported to a specialist hospital for treatment.

He also criticized the filling station’s management for negligence, emphasizing that offloading petrol during the afternoon posed a significant risk to people’s safety.

He further emphasized that the proper procedure was to conduct such operations at night to prevent endangering the lives of individuals.

One woman shared that the fire had affected their family home, located close to the filling station.

She expressed her concern about the critical condition of her brother and his son, who had suffered severe burns from the explosion.

As of now, the Kaduna Police Command has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
