Gombe authorities deny viral report of corps members’ road accident

Story by Susan Mbamah

The Gombe State government has dismissed circulating claims that several corps members died in a road crash.

The Special Adviser to the Governor (SSA) stated that a nationwide check with Motor Traffic Departments (MTDs) across all 774 local government areas found no record of such an accident.

“If an accident of this magnitude had occurred, the MTD would have it on record. We contacted all relevant road traffic agencies, and none could confirm this claim,” he said.

He also clarified that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) does not operate the type of coaster bus shown in the viral images, describing them as misleading and suspicious.

“No parent, guardian, or family has reported the loss of any corps member under these circumstances,” the SSA added.

The public was urged to verify sensitive news, especially reports involving fatalities, through credible sources such as the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

“Anyone sharing breaking news, particularly about accidents, must confirm details with the proper authorities before posting. This story is completely false,” he warned.

The FRSC, NYSC, and police have all separately refuted the viral claim in communications with reporters.
