Story from Dahiru SULEIMAN, Dutse

The Governor of Jigawa State Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has bagged an award of honor as the best labour-friendly governor in Nigeria, conferred on him by the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

The national president of the union Mr. Olatunji Ambali, who presented the award said that it was given to him based on merit, and no Nigerian Governor deserves the award more than Mohammed Badaru Abubakar in the country.

According to him, Governor Badaru is the only governor in Nigeria who doesn’t owe a penny of local government workers as he pays salaries, pension, and gratuity as and at when due.

“Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has given full autonomy to the local governments. He, unlike many of his counterparts, ensures that local government elections are conducted on time.

“When we investigated, we find out that you are the only governor in the country who is not owing our members a single penny whether salary, pension, or gratuity.” Mr. Olatunji said.

Responding, Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar expressed his gratitude to the national president of the union for finding him worthy of the award.

He said, “I appreciate the union for finding me worthy for this award, which is dedicated to Allah subhanahu wata’ala for bestowing his blessings on us”.

According to him, “Local government is the third tier of government and deserves autonomy, this is what we did across the twenty-seven local government in the state. For the local governments that could not afford to pay salaries, we help by assisting them and that is how all workers get their salaries as at when due”.
