Gov. Buni rolls out ₦100 million aid package for 2022 flood victims

Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

Yobe State Governor, Honourable Mai Mala Buni, has officially launched the distribution of one hundred million naira (₦100,000,000) to one thousand (1,000) beneficiaries as part of a livelihood grant for those affected by the 2022 floods in the state.

During the same event, Governor Buni also kicked off the distribution of a monthly stipend of ₦10,000 to 3,510 beneficiaries across the state. Both initiatives are integral components of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) program.

In his address at the Government House in Damaturu, Governor Mai Mala Buni explained that NG-CARES is an intervention program built upon existing Federal Government projects, including the National Cash Transfer Programme (NCTP), Youth Employment and Social Support Operations (YESSO), FADAMA, and Government Enterprises and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), among others.

These programs collectively aim to alleviate poverty and empower vulnerable households at both the federal and state levels, expanding access to livelihood support and food security services.

He revealed that,” Over one decade of insurgency challenge has no doubt compounded our economic situation with unfavourable poverty indices, and sadly, government’s post-recovery efforts are further being challenged by natural disasters, high inflation rates and the consequences of oil subsidy withdrawal. However, government is taking advantage of such interventions to improve the well-being of our people.
