Gov. Yusuf commences massive demolition of Ganduje-approved buildings

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commenced a large-scale demolition of buildings that were approved for construction by the immediate-past administration of Abdullahi Ganduje, considering them illegal.

Our correspondent observed bulldozers bringing down several buildings constructed on public areas during the early hours of Saturday.

It should be recalled that shortly after being announced as the Governor-elect, Yusuf began issuing directives, one of which included a “threat” to demolish commercial shops and other buildings constructed within government-owned or public areas.

Reports indicate that a three-storey building with over 90 shops located on Racecourse by Filing Sukuwa, Nasarawa GRA, was destroyed on the orders of Governor Yusuf at 2:00 am on Saturday.

Governor Yusuf personally led the demolition exercise, accompanied by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammed Gumel.

A source close to the Government House informed our correspondent that numerous buildings within the Kano metropolis, which were approved by the immediate-past administration, have been marked for demolition.
