Government provides details on 70 corpses recovered in Abia market

The Abia State Government has revealed that the details of the 70 corpses recovered in the forest surrounding the Lokpanta Cattle Market in the Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state are currently with security agencies.

Governor Alex Otti disclosed the discovery during his monthly media chat and emphasized that the decision to convert the market from a weekly to a daily market was to enhance the security of lives.

While the leaders of the northern community in the market expressed concerns over the governor’s decision, stating that they were not aware of the discovered corpses, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kazie Uko, clarified that the details of the recovered corpses are with the security agencies and will only be disclosed after the completion of investigations.

Uko stated, “What he (Otti) said was based on the report given to him by the security men. It is the security men who will tell where the corpses are. It is a security matter.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Maureen Chinaka, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing the report.
