Gunman kills 15-year old boy, rapes sister in Anambra

An armed man on Tuesday invaded the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nwokedi, who are teachers in Unubi, Nnewi South local government area, and killed their son Somtochukwu Nwokedi, a 15-year-old SS1 student. The gunman also raped the late Somto’s sister, after he shut Somto at point-blank around his chest region, killing him immediately.

The West African Pilot News gathered that the gunman, average in height, gained access to the compound by scaling the fence. The man who was reported to be masked and armed with a pump-action gun, upon sighting the young Somto when he got into the compound, shot him at point-blank range and killed him. Thereafter, he proceeded to rape his sister, after which he left unscathed, again, through the fence.

This sad development has thrown the family into inconsolable grief. Somto, an SS1 student of Monsignor Memorial Secondary School, Nnewi, was formerly a student of St. Charles Onitsha. He had only joined his parents, who are teachers at Unubi, on Sunday for the Easter holidays. Two days later, he was murdered.

The family is calling for justice for their murdered son, variously described as a bright and promising student. “We need justice,” was all Somto’s elder brother could say. The police, he also said, have been notified of the case and they are investigating it. “Somto deserves justice. We need justice,” his brother repeated, still shocked.
