Gunmen kidnap Ace journalist’s relations in Kogi, demand N50m ransom 

Gunmen abducted three relatives of former Daily Trust Editor, Malam Ahmed Ajobe, on Thursday evening along the Ankpa-Adoka-Markudi road in Kogi State. The victims, which include a male and two females, were identified as Ajobe’s immediate younger sister, Halimatu-Sadiya Tahir, and two other family members.

They were on their way from a local market in Awo, Ankpa local government area, where they had gone to purchase items for the seven-day prayer of Ajobe’s deceased mother, Malama Aishetu Tahir, who passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness.

The kidnappers reportedly reached out on Friday afternoon, demanding a ransom of N50 million for the victims’ release.

Although the journalist could not immediately be reached for details on the incident, a family friend said their abductors have demanded for N50 million for the release of the victims.

“Yes, three of Ajobe’s family members were kidnapped at gunpoint at about 3 pm. on Thursday.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, confirmed the abduction and assured that the police, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area, had deployed forces to ensure the safe release of the hostages. Police Commissioner Bethrand Onuoha also directed the deployment of a tactical team to reinforce efforts in rescuing the victims and bringing the criminals to justice.

The community remains on edge as authorities continue their search for the kidnappers and work towards securing the victims’ safe return.
