Hotel security guard in Adamawa shoots police Inspector to death

A private security guard isentified as Andy Ukoh has accidentally shot and killed Police Inspector Richard Felix while attempting to rescue him from attackers ion Adamawa State.

Inspector Felix, attached to 43 PMF Lagos State, had fallen victim to an attack by five suspected miscreants known as the ‘Shila’ gang.

Ukoh intervened to rescue the Inspector, but tragically, he mistakenly shot the police officer in the process.

Both Ukoh and one of the miscreants, Mordecai Elisha, were arrested and subsequently remanded at a correctional centre by Chief Magistrate Court I.

They face charges of alleged criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, and culpable homicide. While Ukoh pleaded not guilty, Mordecai admitted to committing the offenses.

The unfortunate incident occurred as Inspector Felix was making his way home from a hotel facility in Jambutu, Yola North LGA, on January 1, 2024, around 1:00 am.

He was trailed and attacked by at least five assailants, including Mordecai, shortly after leaving the hotel compound.

The security guard, stationed at the hotel gate, witnessed the brutal assault on the police officer and rushed to the scene to rescue him, leading to the tragic outcome.

The case has been adjourned to January 18, 2024, awaiting legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
