Housekeeper in Lagos sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling employer’s daughters

A housekeeper, Bright Izuchukwu, who defiled his employer’s daughters aged six and seven, was on Monday sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja.

Justice Abiola Soladoye sentenced the convict after finding him guilty of the charges preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.

Izuchukwu was arraigned on two counts bordering on defilement.

While delivering judgment, Justice Soladoye said the prosecution established the ingredients of the offence against the defendant.

He said: “The evidence of the defence is self-serving, manifestly unreliable and untruthful, while that of the survivors was consistent, cogent and convincing as they properly identified the defendant.

“The defendant exhibited raw wickedness, taking turns to ravish the survivors and taking advantage of his employer’s kindness.

“He has left a trace of emotional trauma on the survivors. He must be locked away for life. The defendant exhibited arrogance and nonchalance throughout the trial and lied his way through the trial showing that he is a pathological liar.

“The defendant is hereby found guilty as charged and consequently sentenced to two terms of life Imprisonment which are to run concurrently,” Soladoye held.

The judge ordered that the convict should have his name entered into the register of sexual offenders in Lagos State.

During the trial, the prosecution called six witnesses and tendered two exhibits against the convict.

The state prosecution team, Mrs Olufunke Adegoke and Ms Abimbola Abolade said the convict committed the offence between 2017 and 2018 in FESTAC Town, Lagos.

The prosecution stated that the defendant unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the two survivors while their parents were not at home.
