Housewife in police custody for beating 10-year-old stepson to death

Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a housewife identified as Mrs Apev for allegedly beating her 10-year-old stepson, Fanen Yange to death.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Catherine Anene who disclosed this in a statement explained that “on the 23/1/2023 at about 1700hours, a case of culpable homicide was reported at ‘E’ Police Division, Makurdi, where a team of detectives were deployed immediately for investigation”.

According to her, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased, Fanen, a 10-year-old boy residing at International Market Area in Makurdi was allegedly accused by his stepmother; Mrs Apev to have stolen meat from the pot where she beat him up during the early hours of the day and when the victim went to sleep at night, he didn’t wake up”.

The PPRO stated that Fanen has been confirmed dead by the doctor and his corpse is already deposited at Bishop Murray hospital morgue, Makurdi for autopsy.
