I didn’t kill my wife intentionally – 40-year-old man accused of beating pregnant wife to death in Adamawa says

A 40-year-old man, Robert Mede has been arrested for killing his 7 months pregnant wife in Adamawa state.

Mede, who hails from Bodere Villiage in Ribadu District of Fufore Local Government Area of the state, has confessed to committing the act. He, however, said it was not intentional and regrets what happened.

Robert said contrary to what the police think, his 30-year-old wife died during a scuffle they had, which she initiated out of jealousy.

Narrating the incident, Mede said, “On July 4, 2021, I set out at about 8 pm to go make peace between my friend, Mustapha and his wife, who packed back to her parent’s house.

“While waiting for Mustapha outside my compound, my late wife suddenly approached me, holding me by the jugular, accusing me of cheating on her.

“She started insulting me and dragged me back into the house, beating me and I fell to the ground.
“I managed to free myself from her grip, picked a stick, and hit her on the waist,

I was just trying to defend myself. I immediately rushed her to the hospital when I noticed she was unconscious. But she later died from some complications.

Confirming the incident, the Adamawa state police spokesperson, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, said Mede is currently being detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police headquarters in Yola, and will soon be charged to court.
