“I will comply when I get official letter on 2025 Appropriation Bill” – Fubara

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has responded to the 48-hour ultimatum from the state House of Assembly, saying his government won’t comply with the directive until it receives an official letter from the Assembly.

The Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, had given Fubara 48 hours to submit the 2025 Appropriation Bill in line with a recent Supreme Court judgment.

However, in a letter addressed to the Speaker, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, said the government had not received the said letter.

“As at the close of work on Tuesday, 4th March, 2025, we are yet to receive the said letter. Neither the office of the governor nor the deputy governor’s office, nor the office of the Accountant-General of the state has received the said letter,” the government said.

The governor had earlier stated in a broadcast that he would obey and implement the Supreme Court’s judgment in accordance with the rule of law and in the best interest of the people of Rivers State.

Neptune Prime reports that the Rivers State House of Assembly has given Governor Siminalayi Fubara 48 hours to present the 2025 budget to the lawmakers for consideration.

The demand was made during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday, March 3, 2025.
