Insurgents target farmers and farm lands in Borno

Farming activities in some parts of Borno State have been restricted by the military authorities for close to four years until last year when the restriction was lifted.
The farmers of Borno heaved a sigh of relief following the development.
This is because farming is a major occupation for Borno indigenes and a major source of trade and income.
However, the celebration has been short lived as farmers in the state are now targets for insurgents.
Neptune Prime learned that the insurgents take advantage of growing crops on farms to attack farming communities.
It has also been learned that farmers in Borno are abandoning their farm lands due to frequent attacks by Boko Haram.
According to officials of vigilante and hunters in Borno, 21 farmers were killed on Monday while two others sustained injuries in different attacks on villages in Konduga Local Government.
Nine of the farmers were killed in Wanori, while between Kalari and Jetete villages, twelve others were killed, two currently undergoing treatment, Neptune prime learned.
Unlike Southern Borno where farmers are enjoying relative peace, farming activities have been on hold in Northern Borno due to the intensity of insurgent activities there.
Regrettably, the Northern Borno region has been a major source of revenue generation for the state from agricultural products such as pepper, fish, maize among others.
