IPOB fighters in Imo kill 4 policemen, 2 civilians at checkpoint

Suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have attacked and killed four policemen in the Irete community along Onitsha Road in Owerri, Imo State.

Sources said the gunmen ambushed the policemen who were on stop-and-search duty in the area.

A Point of Sale (PoS) operator and a passer-by were also reportedly killed in the ambush by the assailants.

Police spokesman in the state Henry Okoye confirmed the unfortunate incident.

He, however, clarified that four policemen were killed and not six.

The attack is the latest in the spate of attacks against security agents by non-state actors in Imo State and the South-East geopolitical zone which has experienced scores of gunmen attacks in recent years.
