Israel-Palestinian Conflict: Tinubu to demand ceasefire at Arab-Islamic Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to attend the highly anticipated Joint Arab-Islamic Summit. His flight touched down at King Abdulaziz International Airport at approximately 10:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, where he was warmly welcomed by Riyadh’s Deputy Governor, Prince Mohammed AbdulRahman.

The summit, convened at the invitation of Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is set to address several critical issues facing the Middle East, with a major focus on the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

Tinubu, accompanied by key Nigerian officials—including Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar and National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu—will use the platform to advocate for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

He is also expected to emphasize Nigeria’s unwavering support for a two-state solution, which it views as the most viable route to long-term peace and stability in the region.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu’s participation in the summit is part of Nigeria’s broader efforts to push for renewed peace initiatives in the Middle East.

Tinubu’s diplomatic mission aligns with Nigeria’s long-standing commitment to global peace, justice, and security, especially in regions plagued by conflict.

The Joint Arab-Islamic Summit brings together a broad coalition of Arab and Islamic leaders, making it a critical venue for addressing regional security challenges, fostering dialogue, and seeking solutions to the enduring conflicts that have destabilized the region for decades.

As a leader of Africa’s most populous country, Tinubu’s voice at the summit is expected to carry significant weight in shaping the discussions, particularly on issues affecting global peace and humanitarian concerns.
