JAMB uncovers 3,000 fake graduates, condemns unauthorised admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has exposed 3,000 instances of fake graduates, exposing the widespread deceit within the education sector.

Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, disclosed that these individuals have deceitfully posed as university graduates despite never having attended any educational institution.

Oloyede emphasised the disgraceful nature of illegal admissions orchestrated by certain institutions, casting a shadow on the integrity of the country’s education system.

“Some ‘graduates’ had never entered the four walls of a university owing to the endemic corruption in the system, but the board had documented over 3,000 of such cases,” Oloyede stated in a report published in JAMB’s bulletin.

“Illegal admission of candidates into tertiary institutions in the country is an embarrassment and a disservice to the nation.”

This revelation comes after the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education ordered JAMB in December 2023 to present a list of tertiary institutions conducting irregular and illegal admissions.

JAMB had earlier warned candidates against accepting admissions from such institutions without full academic participation.

All applications for admissions to first-degree programs must be processed through JAMB, the examination body reiterated in a statement titled “Cessation of illegal/irregular admission.”
