Jigawa sacks 3 judicial officers for misconduct
The Jigawa State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has dismissed three judicial officers over allegations of misconduct, in a move aimed at upholding judicial integrity and professionalism.
In a statement issued by Abbas Wangara, Director of Protocol and Publicity for the Jigawa State Judiciary, the disciplinary actions were approved during the commission’s 178th meeting held on January 7.
According to the statement, two officers, Iyal Ibrahim (Higher Registrar, Grade Level 08) and Baffa Alhaji (Principal Registrar, Grade Level 14), were found guilty of illegally selling two vehicles listed as court exhibits. Their actions were deemed violations of Rule 5 (4) & (6) of the Jigawa State Judiciary Scheme of Service (2006), leading to their termination under Section 41 of the Judicial Service Commission Law, Cap. 20 Laws of Jigawa State (2012).

Similarly, Abdu Aujara, a Chief Clerical Officer, was dismissed for suppressing N965,000, which was a litigant’s deposit in a recovery case filed by Ja’iz Bank.
The JSC also advised three Shari’a Court judges, Adamu Farin-Dutse, Muhammad Usman, and Usman Zubair, to tender their resignation letters within two weeks for various acts of misconduct, including abuse of judicial power and misapplication of the law.
In addition, the commission issued warnings to Magistrates Munnir Abdullahi and Yakubu Ibrahim for professional lapses. Abdullahi was reprimanded for converting a civil matter into a criminal one, while Ibrahim was cautioned for using derogatory language towards a litigant.
The JSC emphasised that these disciplinary measures aim to maintain a corrupt-free judiciary and foster professionalism within the judicial system. Abbas Wangara reassured the public of the commission’s commitment to fairness and high performance standards.
“Disciplinary exercises are crucial in ensuring a judiciary that is accountable and ethical,” he added.
