Joining ADC not easy, but necessary for Nigeria’s future – Obi

Former presidential candidate and national figure, Peter Obi, has revealed that the coalition’s decision to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform for the 2027 general elections was a difficult but necessary step born out of deep reflection on Nigeria’s current state.
Speaking yesterday as the coalition formally announced its alignment with the ADC, Obi emphasized that the choice was not taken lightly. However, he noted that the urgency of Nigeria’s political and socio-economic crisis demanded courage, unity, and sacrifice.
“This decision was not made lightly,” Obi stated. “It comes from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward.”

As part of this political realignment, the coalition appointed former Senate President, Distinguished Senator David Mark, as the National Chairman of the ADC, while former Osun State Governor, H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, was named National Secretary.
Obi stressed the coalition’s commitment to work together to secure competent, compassionate, and visionary leadership for Nigeria in 2027. He said the coalition’s adoption of the ADC is a bold step toward dismantling entrenched systems that have failed to prioritize the well-being of Nigerians.
“No one group can change Nigeria alone,” he warned. “To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls — even when those bridges are uneasy.”

The coalition’s rallying message — “A New Nigeria is Possible” — underscores its vision of inclusive governance, leadership renewal, and national unity.
Political analysts say the entry of heavyweight figures such as Mark and Aregbesola under the ADC banner may redefine the country’s political landscape and offer a credible alternative ahead of 2027.
