KACRAN lauds FG, FAO for pioneering digital agriculture drive, pays tribute to late RIKE-SD director
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has applauded the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations for launching an ambitious initiative to digitalise Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
The commendation follows the successful flag-off of the FAO’s Digital Village Initiative (DVI) during a high-level inception workshop held in Lagos from May 7–9, 2025. The event, convened under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, brought together over 100 stakeholders including government officials, agri-tech innovators, research institutions, and farming communities.
According to KACRAN, the workshop laid a strong foundation for co-designing the National Integrated Digital Agriculture Platform (NIDAP), a critical tool expected to modernise agricultural value chains, enhance farmer data systems, and reduce post-harvest losses through innovative technologies such as AI-driven pest control and solar-powered cold storage hubs.

The association, which was represented at the workshop, expressed confidence in the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming the agricultural landscape through science and technology. “We are optimistic that this initiative will not only boost productivity but position Nigeria as a global leader in food production,” said Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, National President of KACRAN.
KACRAN also commended the efforts of RIKE-SD, the technical partner for the project, for its pivotal role in coordinating discussions and crafting a roadmap aligned with Nigeria’s national agricultural transformation policies.
A special tribute was paid to the FAO Representative in Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Kouacou Dominique Koffy, for his exemplary leadership and coordination during the workshop. “Mr. Koffy and his team demonstrated extraordinary commitment and professionalism, which contributed immensely to the outcome of the programme,” Bello noted.

However, amidst the celebration, KACRAN expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Mustapha Ayo Papoola, Executive Director of RIKE-SD. Dr. Papoola, who was instrumental in compiling the final report from the workshop, tragically passed away on the very day the report was scheduled to be submitted. He was laid to rest in Abuja, with his family, government officials, FAO representatives, and members of the scientific community in attendance.
KACRAN offered heartfelt condolences to Dr. Papoola’s family and colleagues, describing him as a dedicated and visionary scientist whose contributions will not be forgotten.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” the statement concluded.
