Kano Assembly asks gov’t to compel banks, telecom companies to employ indigenes

Kano State House of Assembly has asked the Kano government to secure jobs for indigenes in private companies and commercial banks.
The call followed a motion moved by a member representing Takai, Hon. Musa Ali Kachako, during a plenary session.

He said there is a need for all private sectors in the state to employ a certain percentage of Kano indigenes to reduce unemployment rates.
Kachako, lamented how many banks and telecommunication companies operating in the state failed to comply with the federal government’s directives of employing members of host communities as staff.

The lawmakers, who expressed worry over the high rate of unemployed youths in the State, said there is an urgent need for speedy adoption of the House resolutions on the matter to ensure strict compliance by private companies and organisations.
After thorough deliberations, the House constituted an eight-member committee to conduct an investigation into the matter and report back within three months for necessary legislative action.
