Katsina govt suspends official for selling forest reserve land

The Katsina State Government has taken swift action in response to allegations of illegal activities within the Forestry Department of the Malumfashi Local Government Area.

The Unit Head, Usman Illiyasu, has been suspended following reports of his involvement in the unauthorised sale of parts of the Makaurachi Forest Reserve, with alleged transactions amounting to millions of naira.

In a statement released on Friday, Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adua, the Director of Press of the Secretary to the State Government, announced that Governor Dikko Radda has instructed the Local Government Commission to identify any other officials implicated in the illicit dealings and urged a comprehensive investigation into the extent of the illegal transaction and encroachment of the land.

The governor emphasised the need for urgency in addressing the situation, instructing the Local Government Commission to promptly report back to him once their investigation has been completed.

The State Government is committed to ensuring a thorough and transparent inquiry into this matter to uphold the integrity of land management and protect the natural environment.
